OUR MISSION

The mission of the National Windrush Museum is to develop a greater understanding of the lived experiences and stories of Windrush communities and their impact on Britain.

The Museum will achieve its mission by:

a) Documenting the impact Caribbean migration has had on Britain by highlighting the achievements and contributions of Windrush pioneers, including their predecessors and descendants.

b) Providing a more complete translation of the trajectory of British history, slavery, colonialism and migration, showing timelines and hidden histories for the forebears, architects and children of the Windrush generation.

c) Researching, promoting, collecting, documenting, and preserving objects and translations of the cultural diversity within the lived experiences of the Windrush generation. This will be achieved through collaborations, partnerships and associations as well as digital and building-based repositories.

d) Presenting Windrush legacies which give insights into the lived experiences of Windrush pioneers and their children, including racial discrimination, overcoming challenges, achievements, and their contributions to history.
